ChatGPT, an AI language model with exceptional conversational abilities, has taken the tech world by storm. Based on GPT-3, one of the most complex language models ever created, it has been trained on a massive dataset of 175 billion data points. However, it is no secret that OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT and GPT-3, is working on a new model called GPT-4. It is rumored to be even more powerful and capable than its predecessor, with a parameter count that may be as high as 100 trillion. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, has disputed this claim in strong language.

While no official announcement has been made about the release of GPT-4, some have speculated that ChatGPT, now available on Microsoft's Bing search engine, may be powered by the new model. Microsoft recently invested $10 billion in OpenAI, becoming its largest shareholder.

So what sets GPT-4 apart from its predecessors, and will it bring AI closer to the vision of Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who famously said that AI could be "more profound than fire or electricity" in terms of its impact on society? We do not have all the details yet, but we know that GPT-4 will likely push the boundaries of what is possible with AI even further.

GPT-4, the highly anticipated successor to the GPT-3 language model, has been the subject of much speculation in the AI community. Many people are eagerly awaiting the release of GPT-4, which is expected to be even more powerful and versatile than its predecessor. While we cannot say for certain when GPT-4 will be released, there are several indications that it may come out sometime in 2023.

The Timeline of GPT Models:

Before we dive into the potential release date of GPT-4, let's take a look at the timeline of the GPT models. The first GPT model, GPT-1, was released in 2018 and was capable of tasks such as language translation and question answering. The GPT-2 model followed in 2019, which had an impressive 1.5 billion parameters, allowing it to generate highly coherent and contextually relevant text.

GPT-3 was released in 2020, and it raised the bar even higher with a staggering 175 billion parameters. This model could perform tasks such as language translation, summarization, and even creative writing, leading to some impressive demonstrations of its abilities.

Will GPT-4 Be Released in 2023?

So, when can we expect GPT-4 to be released? While OpenAI, the organization behind the GPT models, has not announced an official release date, there are some indications that it may come out in 2023.

Firstly, the release of the GPT models seems to have followed a pattern of roughly one release per year. If this pattern continues, it is possible that GPT-4 will be released in 2023.

Secondly, OpenAI has already announced that it is working on GPT-4. In a blog post from 2020, the organization stated that it is "continuing to invest heavily in developing the technology behind GPT-4." This indicates that the model is in development and may be released in the near future.

Finally, there is a growing demand for even more powerful language models. As AI applications become increasingly sophisticated and complex, there is a need for models that can understand and generate even more nuanced and contextually relevant text. GPT-4, with its potential to have even more parameters than GPT-3, could be the answer to this need.

It is likely that some individuals may not be as impressed with GPT-4 as they were with GPT-3. With the excitement generated by GPT-3's capabilities, there is a possibility that subsequent versions may not appear as revolutionary. As an example, if we were previously astonished by a computer producing poetic writing, will we still be as amazed when a computer produces slightly better poetry a few years later? This perspective has been shared by Altman himself, who mentioned in an interview in January that the GPT-4 speculation is unwarranted and that people may be setting themselves up for disappointment.
