As I helped many operators to deal with fish-tail and unstable glue lap gap issues back at my former company. I found there are 3 keys to making perfect folded boxes.
- Stable transmission: No need to explain how bad transmission affects forming quality. While most people still focus on improving the transmission at flexo units, BL Magpie has already overcome the unstable transmission at folder gluer. At our folder gluer start with rubber-covered wheels which grab the box from flexo without any slipping. Then hold the box firmly with the upper and the lower belt, follow by the suction belt at the second section of the folder gluer. So transmission will be extremely stable from feeder to counter ejector.
- Crease properly: At least 60% of forming quality is affected by pre-creaser and creaser at slotter unit. With proper crease depth, the box will be easier to form squarely.
- Smooth folding: Watch those youtube videos with 0.5x or 0.25x speed and you will find the box moving speed is inconsistent?in many of them. Some are caused by guide rods or guide wheels. With the perfect angle and position, well-designed guide wheels help to form quality.
One more idea to solve the fish-tail issue, make the folding arms angle adjustable. That is why we have electrical adjust the folding arms angle to make the machine to be more applicability.
