Many people know that they NEED a website . . . but they don't know exactly what that means.
When you're just to plan and make decisions about your site, or when you're working on re-designing a site that needs an update, the list of things you "have" to include or accomplish with your site can be so long that it all starts to feel impossible.
That's why I set out to create a list of The Top Ten Therapist Websites - so the I could provide people with real-world examples of what it looked like to get things right.
And as my list of successful website examples grew, I thought it was fascinating to see what these sites have in common!
Here are some of my top take-aways after the hours that I spent studying these sites and others like them.
Get the Fundamentals Right
We all know that people will come to your website when they want to contact you. But SO many people still do not put their phone number and email address front and center on their website!
The best sites don't make this mistake.
The take-away: Have your (clickable) phone number, email address, and other vital information easily visible at the top of your homepage.
Don't Hide from the Camera
The most successful websites are the ones that give the website visitor a real sense of who you are. That means being visible on your own website. High-quality photos that reflect your personality are vital to making your site feel warm, real, and accessible.
The Client is the Focus of the Site
It may feel counter-intuitive, but the people who built these website understand the truth: your website might belong to you, but it isn't about you.
The focus of your site should be your client. What struggles are they experiencing? What feelings are they coping with that brought them to your site? And, most importantly, how can you empower them to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals?
The best websites resist the temptation of morphing into auto-biographies. They keep the spotlight right where it belongs: on the client.
