What are we ACTUALLY teaching our students at schools?
Observing students behaviors for so many years, made me wonder about so many things.
- kids in preschool were happier than upper grades
- kids in preschool loved their peers unconditionally
- bullying in preschool was rare
- the learning environement in preschool is way more attractive
These observations made me stop and search about the behavioral change of some students, the curriculum and how some of these curriculums is making learning more difficult, and the whole environement of schools. One day, i walked into a school and it was so positive and so inviting. Everyone was smiling, students, teachers, employees, secretaria... and i started asking myself what makes a happy school?
Well, almost everything makes a happy school. If we start from the building itself, the environement, decoration, outter space, then the director of the school, teachers, parents, students, and curricular activities. If students are changing behaviors from preschools to higher grades, we have to ask ourselves : what are we transfering to these kids? are they overloaded? are teachers overloaded? do they have little time to give for teaching peace, care and love? is the curriculum responding to the needs of these students and teachers? or we are still teaching the same curriculum from year 1990?
