We are happy to congratulate You on this beautiful occasion. We believe that this day is significant not only for women and girls but for all of us - so that women can freely express their ideas and equally take part in revealing amazing discoveries for World development and peace.

In our opinion, the most inspiring women in science of this century:

  • Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier
  • Roberta Bondar
  • Dame Linda Partridge

More about their research and awards you can find in this short video!

What are your inspiring women in science? Or maybe you get inspired by your colleagues in the laboratory? Let's celebrate and wish them happy International Women and Girls in Science Day in the comments!

To commemorate this day we also designated a discount code for registrations to The COINS 2023 which will be held on April 24th-27th! Use the INSPIRE20 code and get 20% off for "General Attendee" and "One-day" registrations. You can register here, the code is valid until February 16th.

What is waiting for you in The COINS 2023?

Even if you are not a researcher, we have several suggestions for you - let's scroll down and check Contact Fair, Public Program or Program for High School Students!

Keynote Speakers' Lectures

During the conference "The COINS 2023. Changing the World One Step at a Time: from Theory to Practice" we will dive into bioengineering, ecology, neurosciences and biomedicine research fields. The newest practical applications of scientific research will be presented by world-leading scientists from Europe, America and even New Zealand!

Let's meet the first lecturers and their topics:

Linda Partridge, United Kingdom

Linda Partridge works on the biology of ageing and focuses in particular on the role of nutrient-sensing pathways and diet, and her primary interest is in geroprotective drugs. Hear more about Linda Partridge's research results on April 24th.

Anne Parle-McDermott, Ireland

The main interest of her group has been to understand the role of the essential B vitamin, folate, for human health with a particular interest in the prevention of Neural Tube Defects. More recently, Parle-McDermott’s group has branched out to the examination of environmental DNA which is the DNA that is left behind by a given species within its habitat. They were the first to apply CRISPR-Cas technology for single-species detection from environmental DNA enabling them to further develop this approach to biosensors to detect any target species. You will be able to hear more in her lecture "From the Yeast Genome to Fish: a career journey of collaborative discovery" on April 25th.

Thomas Oertner, Germany

Most neurobiology studies focused on two brain areas: the hippocampus as a relay station for spatial and contextual information, and the amygdala, responsible for the emotional content (valence) of specific memories. As Thomas Oertner will discuss, recent progress has been largely driven by the advent of chemo- and optogenetics, as well as microscopy techniques to monitor and modulate the activity of specific neuronal populations. He will also explain some of the challenges and limitations of these approaches in the lecture "Finding the Traces of Memories in the Brain" on April 26th.

Nathalie Rieser, Switzerland

Mental illness is among the greatest public health challenges and there is an urgent need for effective treatment options. Psychedelics are gaining increasing interest in the treatment of psychiatric disorders such as depression and substance use disorders. In this climate, it is necessary to explore the underlying mechanisms of action of these substances in more detail. In her lecture "The Acute Effects of Psychedelics in the Brain and Their Clinical Implications" on April 26th, Nathalie Rieser will outline the emerging methods and clinical implications of psychedelic research and will discuss the psychedelic-induced altered brain activity.

Audrey Lapinaite, USA

Programmable DNA base editors are emerging state-of-the-art tools for precision medicine. One of them - ABE8e, will be presented by Audrey Lapinaite in her lecture "Understanding Molecular Mechanism of Current Precision Genome Editing Tools" on April 27th.

More detailed abstracts of keynote speakers' lectures can be read on our website.

Oral Presentation and Poster Sessions

As we know that among you, there are researchers, we would like to encourage you to participate in Oral Presentations or Poster Sessions and present your research to the audience of life sciences enthusiasts. You will also get professional feedback from your field specialists-assessors that you could learn and improve your research and science communication skills. There is no secret what you will be evaluated for - the Evaluation Form, as well as guidelines and templates for posters, can be found on our website (follow the links under Oral or Poster presentations above).

Registration is open until March 20th.

Contact Fair

If your current workplace is not your cup of tea, come to our Contact Fair on April 27th, where you could learn about work and internship opportunities in NGOs, state institutions or private companies related to life sciences. We have annual participants like ThermoFisher, Mobilioji bioklas?, CasZyme, iGEM, and Linea Libera.

Or you are the CEO or HR of the company and your company is interested in finding new best possible employee? If yes, do not miss the opportunity to find them and register for the Contact Fair by contacting us at [email protected].

Public Program

Are you interested in life sciences but have never tried to be a researcher on yourself? Participate in The COINS 2023 Public Program on April 11th or April 12th and experience the excitement during laboratory work! Stay tuned about Public Program and registration on Facebook. The program is in the Lithuanian language only.

Program for High School Students

If you are a biology, chemistry or physics teacher or grow up passionate about nature child, register for High School Students Program and treat youngsters' curiosity! In the High School Students Program participants listen to Vilnius University Professors' lectures and do related laboratory work. Students can also present their managed experiments at school in High School Students' Poster Session and get valuable feedback.

The registration for High School Students Program is here. On our website, you can find the guidelines on how to prepare for High School Students' Poster Session and Evaluation Form as well.

Let's meet at the Conference!

That's all that we want to share with you at this time. We hope you found some interesting conference parts to attend and we will meet you at the earth-shattering "The COINS 2023. Changing the World One Step at a Time: from Theory to Practice"!
