The invitation came from the President himself, and, in all honesty, it’s hard not to be particularly self-conscious in that scenario. That’s true even if you’re acquainted with him.
In this case, they were his friends.
He had just won the election and decided to throw a party at the White House. His friends were unfamiliar with that environment, so they were extra careful about their deportment.
They assumed that everything he did was Presidential etiquette.
So they imitated him, the whole nine yards.
He poured half his coffee into a saucer and they did the same. He added some rich milk and they also added some. He added some sugar. They did exactly that.
Then the President took the saucer and leaned down to place it on the floor for his cat.
The friends could not hide their embarrassment after that.
That was August of 1923. The man was Samuel Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States.
This is 2022.?
Copying stuff from people you admire without understanding their context is a big mistake.
Don’t copy a marketing strategy that’s not meant for your target audience.
Do what works for you and do what works for your audience.
