What is a virtual assistant and why hire one?

Today, we’ll go back to the basics and answer the three questions that have been popping up in our inbox: What exactly is a virtual assistant? What can a virtual assistant do? And how is it beneficial to a business?
I’m a solopreneur and blogger myself. And to be honest, although I knew about virtual assistants years ago, I’ve always thought that I can (or have to) do everything on my own. What’s the term ‘solo’ doing in ‘solopreneur’ anyway, right? That must mean solopreneurs will have to work on their business on their own.
Wrong. The truth is, there’s only so much you can do on your own.
Take a look at how the past year has been like for you. Did you often feel like you were always behind in your work? When was the last time you had that much needed vacation—or even a quick trip to the spa? Come to think of it, have you even slept a full night lately?
While most entrepreneurs start by bootstrapping and doing everything themselves, the truth is…it doesn’t have to be that way.
A virtual assistant can take tedious tasks off your plate so you’ll have more time for other areas of your business—like creating new products (or blog posts), networking, etc. More importantly, a virtual assistant can significantly free up your schedule so you can have more time for life.
Okay, so having a virtual assistant is great and all…but why would you pay someone for things you can do yourself? Besides, you’ve found your flow already, so why add someone that will disrupt the rhythm you already started?
It took me a while before finally getting a virtual assistant for myself because I didn’t want to re-establish a new rhythm. However, I thank the heavens that I finally jumped in and hired an assistant because it has helped me big time.
While hiring a virtual assistant meant that I had to create a new rhythm in my work flow, having been able to delegate things that eat up my time and energy, things that I don’t enjoy doing at all, I felt more on top of things again. Hiring someone who can take care of the nitty-gritty of my business allowed me to focus my time and energy on the bigger picture.
So, how can a virtual assistant benefit your business too? Imagine having the time to dream and plan on a bigger scale!
Aside from being able to double, triple or even quadruple your revenue, having a virtual assistant will allow you to:
- Find more time for collaborations and joint ventures;
- Plan out your year in advance (and block off time for vacations!);
- Spend more time with your clients because you don’t need to worry about all small tasks that need to be done;
- Create new products; and
- Have more time with your family, friends and that hobby you’ve always wanted to start.
A virtual assistant can help you take charge of your business and your life. Hiring one will give you back your time, energy, creativity and ability to expand your business. I can’t find any reason not to hire one!

8 年If I maybe allowed to add my 2 cents on the matter... A virtual assistant (VA) is supposed to be a person who is already equipped with the skills that an entrep or company needs for their business. Therefore, a VA is not an employee of the company that needs to be trained by such companies to do the function effectively. In a way, their job is more akin to a consultant rendering their specialized skills to service the specific needs of a company.
