1?????Introduction
What’s a vidped?
A vidped is a concept I have developed. It merges the best aspects of ‘video’ and a ‘text op-ed.’ So, a vidped is a modernization of the conventional op-ed, which was introduced in the late 1960s.
In moving from text to video, a vidped keeps the strengths of an op-ed but adds some features and flexibility that are not possible in text.
I will post all vidpeds on my YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFc2RmCBDyMdO10RKwMn4dg
This channel also has some videos that are just my opinions and ideas, without any guest.
2??????Vidped features
A Vidped will have:
1.????A facilitator – that’s me. I will interview the guest.
2.????One (or more) guests.
3.????I will do about 10% of the talking, with the guest doing 90% of the talking.
4.????There will be no “hard” or “trick” questions.
o??The idea is to give the guests a forum to express themselves, leaving it to the viewers to agree/disagree.
5.????Length – open at this .
o??Many people will not watch beyond 2.5 minutes, so guests should get give all their main points in the early part of the interview as a summary. Later, they can elaborate at length.
3?????Guests
1. Types
???(i.)?????????Subject experts They talk about:
o??Their views on agreed-to topics related to the economy, broadly defined.
o??Or, what they are doing to uplift lagging people/sectors, which includes environmental issues.
o??Any other topic agreed-to
o??No politics or religion.
??(ii.)?????????Voice of the young. Here I am looking to give a platform to younger people (ideally 20-30 years but flexible) to talk about themselves in semi-personal ways. This means that their experience/views reflect those of their cohort at least to some extent. They would possibly talk about their hopes, aspirations, frustrations, work achievements, and also public policy ideas.
?(iii.)?????????From any country.
2.????????Manner of presentation.
Guest will talk in conversational terms, not like the (i) formal writing in a text op-ed or (ii) ?formal approach of a presentation to a select audience.
3.????????Can have more than one:
o??issue in a vidped.
o??interview if their views are extensive.
o??Guest in a vidped
4?????Preparing for a Vidped
Guests should do some preparation for a Vidped. This will make it easier for guests to explain their opinions and ideas to viewers.
I will need from the guest
?1.????A bio of 25-30 words to introduce the guest.
2.????About 1-3 main points the guest wants to make in the Vidped.
3.????Guest can use slides or show a short video if they want to.
4.????Optionally, some short "lighter" point at the end. Something semi-personal, which means something personal that many people can relate to and understand.
o??If the guest agrees to this, I will say upfront that something different is coming at the end, in an effort to keep people watching until the end.
5?????Doing the Vidped
The Vidped will be:
1.????Via a Zoom call.
o??Guests can use all normal elements of a Zoom call, such as slides, images, short videos.
2.????We will do an informal rehearsal when the Zoom call begins.
3.????Once we are OK, we will record the Vidped.
4.????Used as recorded. No editing.
o??If necessary, we can do a retake of the entire interview.
6?????After the recording
The Vidped will be posted to YouTube on my channel.
o??It takes about 10-25 minutes to go from Zoom to Youtube.
o??I will send you the link.
o??I will post the video link on Linkedin, Quora, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts.
§?While I do have a large number of followers on these accounts, I have not yet been able to get most of them to subscribe to my Youtube channel.
§?Guests should post the links in their accounts, and circulate within their networks.
