What an unexpected blessing

What an unexpected blessing

Last Friday as I was preparing to shut down at my office a team of people blessed my socks off!

I looked at my inbox and it began to "blow up". I was receiving our universities Sun Award from multiple people. I didn't know what was going on. You see, these awards come in every once in a while. Like maybe someone takes the time to see a job well done and puts you in for one of these awards each semester or something like that. So having them come in multiples was so I odd, I thought there might be an email server problem!

I opened the first one and read it. It was from an individual that we had trained in a program we have developed called Proving Grounds. This program helps faculty and staff across our university understand our ever growing military affiliated student population. My supervisor and I are the presenters of the training and we give them pretty consistently throughout the school year and have training well over 400 staff and faculty up to this point.

But nothing like this has ever happened. The Sun Awards finally stopped with SEVEN total in my inbox and at least another seven were sent to my supervisor. We were texting back and forth while this was happening and were both in awe of what was going on.

With the unbelief came this overwhelming feeling of gratitude. I couldn't believe this team conspired to unleash this random act of kindness on us. They planned it you see. The training had occurred on a Wednesday afternoon and these awards came in on Friday afternoon. They got together, I imagined, and decided to take the time out of their Friday to make the day of this military advocate. They sat down at their computers and took the time to type out a paragraph or so telling us how much they appreciated our training and to tell us how excellent they thought our presentation was. They gave feedback to show they had learned something and had been moved. Each one was unique.

I wanted to write this short story to honor the group of tutoring center managers at our university and to tell them how blessed I was going into my weekend and just how thoughtful it was of you to think of me.

The moral of the story. I think we could all take some time out of our days to appreciate someone around us for a job well done. This type of consideration can go a long way in a persons day and who knows, it might bring some light into this oft scary world of ours.
