Simply put, a writer is someone who writes articles, stories, books, etc.
A writer is someone who uses written words to communicate ideas in various styles and techniques.
A writer can produce materials across a number of genres both fictional and non-fictional.
10 Different types of writers
1. Content writer: A content writer is one who produces engaging and relevant contents and articles for use online for blogs, websites, social networks, e-commerce sites, brands etc.
A content writer is a researcher, an editor, an SEO expert.
The most popular forms of content writing are: blogging, writing white papers, e-books, newspaper, podcasts, brochures, sales copy etc.
2. Freelance writer: A freelance writer is a writer that works on his own and not employed by any organization or agency.
He writes for one client or several clients at the same time often remotely.
3. Ghost writer: A ghostwriter is a writer hired to create a piece of content by a client who publishes the content as the author.
In other words, ghostwriters don’t take credit for their works rather they get paid and move on.
4. Copywriter: A copywriter is a writer that writes text for the sole purpose of advertising to increase brand awareness and eventually persuade a person to take a particular action.
The text is known as a copy.
He writes promotional materials on websites, billboards, brochures, catalogs etc.
5. Creative writer: A creative writer is a writer that expresses his thoughts and feelings in an imaginative way. For example, writing a news article whose main purpose is to present facts cannot be considered creative writing because it doesn’t express the feelings of the writer.
Types of creative writing are: poetry, plays, personal essays, songs, speeches, memoirs, tv scripts etc.
6. Screenplay writer: The writer is also known as scriptwriter or scenarist.
A scriptwriter is a writer that writes for film, television, video games and online web series.
Without a scriptwriter, there is no production.
7. Speechwriter: A speechwriter is a writer hired to prepare and write speeches that will be delivered by another person.
A speechwriter could write for officials and executives in the government and private sectors, weddings and other occasions.
8. Business writer: A business writer is a writer who writes proposals and plans for a company or reports on the stock market, financing or other economic happenings for publication.
9. Songwriter: A songwriter is a composer who writes lyrics for songs for musical artistes and record labels.
10. Technical writer: A technical writer is someone who transforms complex and difficult written materials into clear and concise documentation. He likes to work with forms, designs and pattern and often great with research work.
A writer could be one or more of these different types of writer.
You could start as a content writer and over time improve to become a scriptwriter and vice versa.
