After working with professionals seeking jobs for 30+ years, I have come to realize that there are 4 kinds of job seekers and to believe that it is really important to know what kind of job seeker you are ... in order to best achieve your goals.
Cannot Get an Interview
There are many professionals who struggle getting interviews. And interviews are prerequisites to offers. So if you can't get an interview, you can't get an offer. And that means either long-term unemployment or under-employment. Neither is palatable for professionals.
Cannot Get an Offer
There are many professionals who struggle getting offers. Very often for these professionals, the interviews happen (time and time again) for exactly the kinds of jobs they want OR jobs they have absolutely no interest in doing. One client we worked with literally was getting interviews every day! But they were almost all for roles he'd done already, with organizations he did not want to work with, or for jobs he just had no interest in doing. Interviews for the role he wanted, at organizations he wanted to work at, came rarely. And when they did, he was never the one picked, despite being told by multiple people in multiple rounds that he was very qualified. As another described it, "you're always the bridesmaid, never the bride."
Cannot Negotiate
There are many professionals who cannot negotiate. These professionals have stories (sometimes lots of them) about how once they were inside, they discovered that they were significantly underpaid. Or they learn, that once hired, they can't seem to get any wiggle room on aspects of the job that are very important to them but that in the hiring process their organization is incredibly willing to work with people who want modifications to titles, vacations, in-office days, and even equity. In some cases they didn't even try to negotiate the offer; in other cases, they tried but were not successful.
Cannot Figure Out What's Next
There are many professionals who do not know what they want to do next. Job boards, no matter the platform, start with a box where you indicate what you are seeking. And while some organizations do have resources on their website to help you understand the categories of jobs they offer, even some testing to help direct you to the right category, the truth is to get started you do have to have some idea of what is the right next move, career wise, for you. And this lack of self-understanding can be a major impediment for some job seekers.
And, yep, there are job seekers who struggle in all four areas experiencing the most severe of bias.
There's research, in fact, that supports the idea that some profiles have incredibly difficult times getting hired including those over 55, military spouses, career changers, and those re-entering the workforce after a break.
One of my first steps in working with a client (and yep, I work personally with every single JobMorph client who comes our way) is to figure out where the challenges are and then to develop a strategy of how to overcome those challenges. It's been my mission in life to help job seekers overcome these hurdles. And that is really the basis of why JobMorph exists. It's purpose. My purpose.
But figuring out the root cause is not enough.

That's why within JobMorph we have an entire team to help professionals overcome these hurdles.
It's been incredible to see how effective we can be and to see us increase success for job seekers 500%!
I cannot even begin to articulate what it feels like to watch how with the right support, our team can overcome hurdles professionals are experiencing, land interviews for jobs they really want in organizations they really want to work at. successfully get offers, and then negotiate to achieve the package that's right for them. Truly I had no idea how this VISION I had of a different kind of job seeker support company would evolve, mature, and grow when I had the idea and formed JobMorph in November 2020.
And it's now time for us to turn our attention also to organizations and help recruiters, hiring managers, and leadership with their struggles. Because there are truly BIG STRUGGLES out there in finding talented people, retaining them, and achieving DEI objectives. And so I am working with organizations now to develop services to meet their needs. It's been truly incredible really to embed into organizations and understand the struggles AND opportunities.
There are two major initiatives we are working on with organizations.
Both initiatives with organizations, ultimately, make it easier for job seekers (of every profile) to find their dream. And while it will take us time to get from here to there, we were selected by NewChip and so now have an accelerator helping us to get in front of investors who are interested in our mission to disrupt how people get the right jobs and how organizations find the right people.
Here's why I know, for sure, we will get there:
What we have built together, our clients and our team, is just phenomenal. It's truly transformed lives and continues to do so literally every day.
This JobMorph that you see before you when you hit up our site was built by our team AND our clients. Sure, I put the "morph" after job, bought a URL, and filled out an IRS form to create an EIN, but it's the team AND our clients that created JobMorph. They built it into what you see before you today... and they will drive what you will see from us next.
Stay tuned.
