How you can help JDRF? About 1.25 million Americans have T1D and an estimated 40,000 people will be newly diagnosed each year in the United States. Contrary to popular belief, T1D is not a childhood disease. It occurs at every age, in people of every race, and of every shape and size. In fact, there are more adults who have T1D than children, although it was previously known as juvenile diabetes.

T1D is an autoimmune disease that occurs when a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, the hormone that controls blood-sugar levels. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. The cause of this attack is still being researched; however, scientists believe the origin may include genetic predisposition, some viruses, and environmental trigger.
Today’s outlook for children and adults with type 1 diabetes has greatly improved with a combination of disease management treatments, lifestyle choices and research to find a cure. Advancements in medication types and delivery methods has also given people the freedom to choose which treatment options work best with their particular circumstance
JDRF is the world’s leading T1D support organization funding type 1 diabetes. They are tirelessly dedicated to funding biomedical research into the causes, education, prevention, treatments and finding a cure for T1D. JDRF are wonderful advocates for the needs of individuals with T1D and their families.
You can be a part of the JDRF community in taking on T1D and bring us closer to a dramatic improvement in the quality of life and a cure. Please help by going to the JDRF Website to learn more and join our team (The Holender Family) fundraising webpage at: https://www2.jdrf.org/goto/holenderfamily
