What is the TRUTH ... What Must We Do as a Nation?
We start a new Chapter of America today, a new opportunity to get it right. Staying away from politics, there are great TRUTHS to share in the direction we must take as a nation. They are all based upon the OneTRUTH we have and the peace and prosperity this TRUTH provides.
It starts with humbling ourselves as a nation, with a belief that it is not our country, or anything that we have accomplished as a nation that makes us great. It is our faith, “One Nation Under God” that makes us a truly great nation.? A nation so many others envy. The Founding Fathers of the United States were profoundly influenced by Christianity, which played a significant role in shaping the nation's principles and governance.?
This does not mean that we have no room for other faiths or beliefs. Part of our greatness as a nation is that we are tolerant of other viewpoints, thoughts, and directions but remain united in the face of so many different viewpoints.
Thomas Jefferson, our 3rd President and drafter and signer of the Declaration of Independence, put forth his thoughts on the matter when he said, "God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the Gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever..."
Benjamin Franklin added, "Here is my Creed. I believe in one God, the?Creator of the Universe. That He governs it by His Providence. That He ought to be worshipped. That the most acceptable service we render to him is in doing good to his other children. That the soul of man is immortal and will be treated with justice in another life respecting its conduct in this. These I take to be the fundamental points in all sound religion, and I regard them as you do in whatever sect I meet with them.”
We find the promise of God in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “…?if my people, who are called by my name,?will humble?themselves and pray and seek my face?and turn?from their wicked ways, then I will hear?from heaven, and I will forgive?their sin and will heal?their land.” Another interpretation puts it as “evil ways”, and establishes following the TRUTH of God, the One TRUTH, as a means of redemption. We must both become humble as a nation and “turn” from our ways.
The next promise is based upon "loving one another, healing wounds, and listening to one another." This will be particularly difficult because the wounds run very deep. We have endured so many lies, delt with terrible half-truths, and was feed so much false news it might be impossible to recover. So many people have benefited from this that they will be extremely reluctant to turn their ways around and seek TRUTH. No matter what might be proven to the contrary there will be those who will ignore the evidence, dispute the facts, and refuse to listen to credible witnesses. Are you one of them or are you open to listening to hear others and loving them for who they are? Then you are truly blessed by your ways.
This dictates that we must hold our leaders accountable to the will of the people and the direction of God. We have, as a nation, lost sight of so many TRUTHS and have become corrupt and full of evil. We must find ways of restructuring, doing things differently, becoming more efficient, and returning our strength in the world. We must all learn to follow the righteous laws established and all the silliness of division and privilege in our nation. We will again become a force for good and fairness, and peace in the world.
Some will need to sacrifice much in the process, giving up their greed and self-serving interests. We must come together, find common ground, and re-establish ourselves as a nation under God, with liberty and justice for all. Yes, we have an opportunity for a new, fresh start, a better future for all. Are you willing to try?
