This is what true leadership looks like...

This is what true leadership looks like...

A brand new worker walks onto the job site. It's his first day in the oil industry. The site manager interrupts me and says:

"Hold on Craig, just a minute. I got a new guy here. I need to introduce myself to him."

He then took that worker into the field office, gave him the satellite phone and I'll never forget what he said.

"Phone, your family, your wife, or your mom whoever you want, and tell them you made it."

The reason he did this is because…

We're a snowball throw from the Northwest Territory border.

Instead of squirrels, we have polar bears, that's how far out there we were.

Then that supervisor takes him up to the crew, introduces him and he went on to say:

"You're going to shadow me for the next four days and I'm personally going to show you what we do around here and what hazards to look out for. No one is going to get hurt on my watch."

It was incredible.

If every site supervisor led their team like that...

1. The turnover rate would be lower

2. Team morale would be higher

3. Communication would be substantially improved

And most importantly...

People wouldn't be getting hurt nearly as much.

Would you work for this type of manager?

I definitely would!

I'd show up every day ready to get the job done.

What do you think?

Do you agree?

If so hit repost ? ??

If you want to build a team that functions like this at your job site

Shoot me a DM and we can discuss it.

Craig Gauvreau CRSP Let’s get real. We’re talking about exceptions—those rare moments of luck that come our way. We’re not addressing the real issues; instead, we keep spinning stories about what good leaders should be. The truth is, the leaders who make decisions aren’t on LinkedIn spinning their wheels. They’re too busy trying to survive each day, rather mostly overwhelmed and ineffective. If I asked you for a clear DEFINITION OF TALENt that we could use to select leaders and employees—even those illiterate —would you have one ready? Or will you question my question ? relevance? If you had one would yiuvconfidently say it's help you consistently choose the right people? If so, then we can start discussing leadership. Here’s something to consider a reality we see every day in every business we get exposed to: +80% people believe they can be leaders. Ever wondered where that belief comes from? Reality, <20% have the potential, and many of those aren’t interested in taking on leadership roles, despite their capabilities. Instead of promoting an ideal image of leaders, why don’t we critically examine why we’re not selecting and promoting the right people? Or is this kind of questioning too unpopular to ask?

Love this Craig. The most outstanding leaders are shepherds. They protect and empower others so they can contribute their best selves.
