?? Prayer is a mental practice that focuses the scattered tendencies of the mind, consolidating them into a single direction. It arises when a person, fatigued by the distractions, deceptions, and uncertainties of the world, seeks solace and assistance. It compels one to envision an idealized concept of strength and courage, serving as a refuge and aid. Within the heart, a mental image of a supremely powerful and awe-inspiring God takes shape. This image is constructed based on personal devotion, confidence, and faith, embodying the accumulated rituals and observances of the individual over time. As impressions change, so does this mental image, representing our own perspective of an inexhaustible, benevolent deity. In prayer, we turn to this inner center of power. It is from here that we draw forth an enthusiasm that unveils hidden potential within the mind. This mysterious inner power of the mind permeates every particle of the body, filling us with hope, empowering us to take action, and inspiring serene thoughts that imbue the petitioner with fearlessness and attentiveness. Thus, prayer can be clearly understood in this manner.
?? A wise seer explains that prayer is linked to the most sacred aspect of human existence—the soul. Within the soul lies an unfathomable reservoir of divine power. The mind resides in close proximity to the soul and, in fact, is subtler and more potent than all other faculties. When the mind confidently concentrates its powers on the inner core, it reflects the radiance of the soul, bestowing incredible strength upon the mind. This phenomenon can be referred to as divine inspiration, and the act of accessing this inner divine inspiration is what we call "prayer."
