What is true art?
“True art lies in a reality that I felt.”-Odilon Redon, French artist and pastellist.
One thing that pops into mind on hearing the word art is the beautiful colours, varied designs, paintings and what not. But art in a broader sense is more than painting and fine arts; it includes everything from dance to music and drama to fine arts. Art is a larger term of a much larger culture of people around the world practicing it.
True art is something that is so dynamic that it changes from person to person. Everyone has a different definition of true art. For some it is the art which comes unaltered from the heart and knows no bound, for others it is the practiced finesse which an artist derives from the years of toil. But everyone appreciates the depth and intensity the art bears and the soul that the art has which speaks to them from within.
In all its glory a true art form is something empathetic, bold, complex and fine all at the same moment. It is something which possesses a complexity perplexing to the senses and yet possesses a subtlety that tinges you from within. Every art form which is unaltered by the external fights and issues and lingers in the depths within is a true art. True art is not something an artist creates, it is something which comes eternally and the artist performs it.
So, true art is an enigmatic piece with hidden secrets lying just in front. It is something which bewilders us at the same time and gives our hearts the peace it is lingering for. It is something deep and yet so superficial. It is a paradox which makes us ardent because the passion it possess while making us placid with its beauty.

1 年I have to agree with the comments. True art to me is the expression of the non-physical into physical form (the art). Simply practicing how to paint a flower and being able to finally represent a flower in a painting realistically I would call craft. Also, pieces which are created for the sole purpose of selling I would call crafts as well, which speaks to Elloumi's comment about art being the "fruit of the creativity of free people".

8 年There is no exact definition of art or true art specifically. The meaning is so broad that we can't conclude with exact words to identify what it is. True art is what one believes it is. Personally, I wanted art to be something that really touches others on a deeper level in their soul or mind and creates memories.
