WHAT IS TROPHY HUNTING?
A hunting trophy is an item prepared from the body of a wild/game animal killed by a permitted hunter and kept as a gift/souvenir of the successful hunting or fishing expedition.
Trophy hunting should not be confused with illegally game hunting.
Hunting brings in serious money. Hunters pay more money that goes to wildlife conservation.
The hunting industry contributes millions to Zimbabwe’s economy. The hunting is controlled and permitted in some areas of the Parks and Wildlife Estate. This is done through a comprehensive quota system that allows for sustainable and non-destructive hunting. The areas of hunting are separate from Recreational Parks, National Parks and Sanctuaries, thereby reducing conflicting resource usage.
All Operators must be registered and licenced with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority. Operators are responsible for obtaining the permits and supplying the necessary services such as camp accommodation, catering, trackers, skinners, vehicles and a Zimbabwe qualified Professional Hunter.
Firearms and Ammunition National Parks' regulations in Zimbabwe require minimum calibres for certain species. You will need a rifle of .375 or bigger for the heavy, thick skinned animals such as buffalo or elephant, and anything from a .270 upwards for the smaller soft skinned antelopes.
