Good Mentors Want To Mentor
First and foremost, mentors want to make a personal investment in the growth and success of their mentees. Good mentors have a passion for helping and guiding people. The mentors’ level of enthusiasm for the relationship will motivate mentees, thus empowering them to develop their own strengths and embark on a continued pursuit of lifelong personal and professional development. Good Mentors Are Good Role Models
Mentors set a good example for mentees in many ways. They highlight how their personal habits contribute to their success in achieving their personal and professional goals. They demonstrate their own program of learning, not only to be on top of what is currently going on in their field but also to improve themselves. continually sets a good example by showing how his/her personal habits are reflected by personal and professional goals and overall personal success. Mentors who are well respected by others inside and outside their chosen field will encourage mentees to emulate those behaviors that will lead them to also be respected. They understand that learning means admitting they don’t have all the answers and will sometimes have to do some research before answering mentees’ questions.

A primary responsibility of the mentors is to not only offer guidance but constructive criticism that enable mentees to recognize their strengths, identify their weaknesses, and responsibilities of a good mentor is to provide guidance and constructive feedback to their mentee. Mentors are always respectful, even if the mentee has a different opinion and may not agree with the mentors’ advice or guidance. Difficult discussions are approach with tact. Finally, mentors must respect the mentees’ privacy and not share personal information with others (unless legally or ethically required to do so).
