EASA Part 145 Maintenance Error Management System & MEDA Training Program
EASA Part 145 Maintenance Instructors typically support the development of Maintenance Error training programs within the 145 Organisation.
The basic MEDA philosophy is based on an understanding that people do not intentionally make errors and that organizational factors play a significant and contributory role.
It is widely recognized that the majority of causal and contributory factors leading to an error can be managed. In addition, developing root cause understandings leads to a wider and more effective mitigation process.
This training takes the understanding of the entire MEDA process to a deeper level so that following the training the Delegate will be able to:
- Develop comprehensive understandings of the MEDA process;
- Understand effective techniques for training your own employees in the implementation of MEDA systems;
- Undertake Case Study analysis and practice completion of the MEDA Results form and Interview Process.
What Training is required for EASA Part 145 Production Planners?
Concerning the Role of Production Planning
What are the challenges?
In the Production Planning environment, there are challenges with many of the elements which directly affect the efficiency of the Production Planning Process being outside of the control of the Production Planning Personnel.
Consider the following core elements of Production Planning. As a prerequisite Production Planning should be proportionate to the amount and complexity of the maintenance work being scheduled.
Manpower in an EASA Part 145 Organisation – The Manpower required to support the maintenance process is one of the most expensive commodities, with the aim to have sufficient manpower when required throughout the check is a major challenge.
A percentage of the work and parts replacement required during heavy maintenance cannot be directly planned as it is triggered by inspection findings. This results in additional manpower requirements which need to be accommodated and if possible allowed for in advance.
Building Competence in the EASA Part 145 Workplace – Having Sufficient persons is only part of the story, the people we have must be effective and cable of delivering the work we require in an acceptable time frame. Therefore, the Management and control of Competence becomes a key feature in the delivery of an effective organisation.
Facilities – The available facilities need to meet all objectives in the best way and part of the production planning role is to match the available facilities/workload requirement and manpower.
EASA Part 145 Tooling & Equipment – Tooling needs to be available at the point of delivery of the maintenance, short falls and shortages should be minimised, the tooling requirement is typically known or at the very least, the information related to the tooling requirements are known. Waiting for tooling results is a lost time. As with tooling above all equipment needs to be available to both support the correct access requirements as well as to again minimise lost time.
Technical Documentation – Must cover all the elements of the work being performed or which require support documents to perform research or evaluation – standards manual for example.
Check Pack & Certification – The system of Certification should ensure that all tasks are clearly managed, stage signed and certified where appropriate by suitable authorised persons.
Time Constraints – We only have a limited period to perform the maintenance and therefore need to ensure that we provide the best possible service delivery.
The use of Critical Path Techniques can help us manage the available resources in the best way possible.
Spare Parts & Material – The availability of all spares and materials is essential for the effectiveness of the maintenance delivery.

Considerations Related to EASA Part 145 Technical Records
What are Aircraft Technical Records?
At first, it might seem obvious. However, as we dig a little deeper we uncover a set of rules and regulations which describes exactly what we mean by both Aircraft Technical Records and Aircraft Continuing Airworthiness Records.
EASA Part 145 Technical Records Requirements
145.A.55 Maintenance and Airworthiness Review Records - The organisation shall record all details of maintenance work carried out. As a minimum, the organisation shall retain records necessary to prove that all requirements have been met for the issue of the certificate of release to service.
Let’s not underestimate the importance of the technical records, without documentary evidence supporting the airworthiness status of the aircraft, it would simply not be allowed to fly.
