What Top skills do Employers look out for?

A prime part of being human is our ability to search for a thing, discover it, learn more about it, and eventually master it. Depending on the subject, this learning process breaks new ground and makes something out of the acquired knowledge.?

This is what we call a skill.?

A skill is a learned power of doing something competently or a developed aptitude or ability.?

Humankind has, over time, developed abilities and knowledge to such a state which has birthed a myriad of fields and interests.?

In today's rapidly advancing world, few professions of 20 years ago remain. If they do, they've been altered to fit present realities and technology. And skill acquisition is, many times, driven by demand in fields and professions alike.?

What are today's employers looking for??

Amid various handiwork and diverse knowledge, one thing binds today's employers: "soft skills". A soft skill is a skill that is not directly related to a specific job or task. But it is instead related to how you work and interact with others.

Hard skills are necessary; without them, you might not find yourself interfacing with many opportunities. Still, soft skills will keep you and help you improve, no matter where you find yourself.?

  • Critical Thinking: Critical thinking is approaching information with objectivity and intelligence. By using logic and research-based analysis, it enables informed judgments. With the human race's diversity and the market's complexity, critical thinking must be included in your skillset. A great way to develop this skill is by playing cognitive thinking games, solving riddles, etc.

  • Communication skills: Communication is successfully transmitting ideas and thoughts from one person to another. I say “successful” because communication is not successful when thought is shared but not understood by the receiving party. This makes communication a real skill once you realize how intricate it can get - the source of information, the message itself, the channel through which it is shared, and so on.

  • Collaboration skills: Collaboration demands that you effectively work with other people. This involves working in teams, building relationships with your teammates, conflict resolution, and generally creating a great working environment for you and others.

  • Creativity: Creativity is the engine of innovation. It drives us to find new and better ways of doing things. Without creativity, there would be no progress. It is not a skill that is useful for just artists; rather, it involves every profession. You could say that creativity is a thought process that lets you see things in new ways.

  • Time management: Time is of the essence, and time is money. There really is no way to “manage” time, but there are multiple ways to manage yourself within a given time frame. So, time management is the ability to effectively manage yourself given particular times and deadlines. Developing this ability would require a change in mindset regarding your time and some practice, too.

Soft skills are essential for success in the workplace and in life. They can help you to build relationships, solve problems, and be successful in your career. But to begin, you must do some soul-searching to find your strengths and weaknesses and resolve to work on yourself.

It all comes back to the beginning: searching a thing out, discovering it, learning more about it, and eventually mastering it.
