What are Titanium Anodes?

Titanium anodes, also known as dimensionally stable anodes (DSAs), are a type of electrode. They are recognized by various names, including dimensionally stable electrodes (DSE), precious metal-coated titanium anodes (PMTA), noble metal-coated anodes (NMCA), oxide-coated titanium anodes (OCTA), and activated titanium anodes (ATA).

Essentially, these anodes consist of a titanium base coated with a metal oxide layer. This coating engages actively in electrochemical reactions, with the titanium base acting as the electrical conductor.

These anodes employ a titanium substrate, in forms like mesh, plate, strip, rod, or tube, to enhance their electrochemical properties. The substrate is coated with a thin layer of mixed metal oxides (MMOs), including RuO2, IrO2, PbO2, and Ta2O5.

These titanium anodes are commonly referred to as “MMO anodes” due to the widespread use of MMO coatings.
