What time is it?
Writing this article I think - isn't this obvious? Shouldn't work timings suffice? Well apparently not for all managers.
The age of technology and "mobiles" have made it so easy, efficient, and seamless for teams to communicate and specially for managers to talk to their team members. Organizations are able to have team members in different cities working together using technology to communicate.
I want to talk about a very peculiar manager behavior and leveraging technology to communicate with the team however, forgetting an important question "what time is it"?
There are managers who have large teams, handling multiple projects resulting them to spend a lot of time working. While working extra hours, contributing individually may lead to meeting deadlines, communicating with the team in non-work hours can lead to stress and in a lot of cases could make one feel harassed. I won't describe the definition of harassment :)
So here are the absolute must NOT Dos:-
- Ask "what time is it" before you send a work related messages to your team
- Do all need to see a communication? or it can be between the manager and a team member
- A message on Sunday night is criminal. Everything can wait until 9AM, Monday.
- Emails on a weekend....a must no unless really needed
- A gentle reminder in advance..... NO !
There's a lot that we can discuss here about such manager behavior and I welcome your comments.
