What it takes to succeed in Multi Cloud Journey?
More and more customers are looking to diversify their cloud presence by adopting multi cloud approach for their organization different reasons, including reducing risk in their investment, avoiding provider lock-in, and taking advantage of best-of-breed services from the leading cloud vendors to address a company’s use cases.
Below are some of the basic building blocks that should be in place to succeed in a multi cloud journey
Centralized IAM
“IT’S A MUST” Maintain a central IAM platform to manage your users and application access across clouds. This will help you in user management, auditing the activities, tighter control, easier deprovisioning from a single pane of glass.
Common Deployment Framework/Tools
Identify a common deployment framework & tools that can be leveraged across clouds for Infra & app deployment. It can be for simple VM deployment to CI/CD pipeline for your microservice deployment. For ex: Using IaaC tool like Terraform for resource deployment rather using native cloud services. This will save time and reduce operational overhead for the Cloud team
Cost Management Tool
Invest in a good cloud cost management platform that will enable you to track your cloud spending from a single source. This will not only help in control the cost, it will help you to understand the usage pattern and accordingly channelize your product strategy, budget planning, growth area etc.

Centralized Monitoring Tool
As the diversity of platforms and services grows along with the number of distributed applications running, it’s critical to gain a holistic view of the entire stack across cloud. Hence having a centralized monitoring platform is mandatory for the operations team to successfully run the ops.
Seamless Security Framework
Deploy a comprehensive cloud Infra/Application security solution that protects and prevents enterprise and customer data, assets and applications from advanced security threats and cyberattacks across multiple cloud infrastructures and environments. Make it consistent across clouds, single point of control, common network policies etc.
"Automate Automate Automate"
The moment you think of multi cloud make sure you forget the cloud console. Automate the tasks as much as possible throughout the lifecycle from Infra deployment, application deployment, security, DR Failover etc. The more the manual tasks you are performing in cloud the higher the possibility that you will fail.
