What are suitable PPE options for workers requiring prescription glasses?
It is important when on site, vision and protection are not compromised. Prescription spectacles are not a suitable alternative for safety spectacles. What are appropriate options for workers requiring prescription glasses?
Prescription eyewear must be properly compatible with PPE to avoid compromising protection. Equally, PPE must fit with the prescription eyewear to make sure there is no distortion to vision. This guide outlines options for using corrective lenses with PPE at work, offering innovative solutions to ensure high protection with perfect vision.
There are a number of options available to wear prescription lenses in combination with PPE. Some products fit with glasses, whereas others require an insert to fit corrective lenses inside the PPE item.
Overspectacles can be worn with prescription eyewear. The Stealth? Coverlite? overspectacle is designed to fit comfortably over prescription spectacles, providing lightweight eye protection in combination with corrective lenses.
Faceshields mounted on browguards and helmets will fit safely over glasses.
To wear prescription eyewear with goggles or a full face mask, you can use an RX insert. The insert fits inside the goggle or mask, meaning there are no spectacle arms to interfere with the seal.
Simply purchase an RX insert kit and take it to the optician to be glazed with corrective lenses, then fit to a compatible goggle or mask.
Safety spectacles are available with corrective lenses at different strengths. Swiss One Safety Eyemax? spectacles are available with five different lens corrections, offering visual comfort and combined protection. The corrective lenses are 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0.
Prescription eyewear and PPE must be compatible so both can work as intended. The prescription eyewear must not interrupt the seal of a mask or goggle, and the PPE items must not interfere with the position of the eyewear to avoid distorting the vision.
