What is a "successful"? post on LinkedIn?

What is a "successful" post on LinkedIn?

We all want to reach thousands of people (or at least our target audience), but who do we reach and when can we speak of a successful post?

Who gets to see your posts?

A week ago I ran a poll to figure out how many people of FOLLOWERS saw my posts versus my connections. I asked people the pick one of 3 options and enter it the comment field. I would like to share some of my results at this point.

?? About 1.5% of the total viewers actually reacted to the post (in the last week)!

?? 74% were 1st-degree connections that saw it in their timeline

??1% were 1st-degree connections that saw the post because other 1st degree connections reacted first

?? 15% were people that are 2nd-degree connection and saw it because of a reaction by one of my 1st-degree connections

?? 2% were true FOLLOWERS which seems very low

Interesting to see the lifecycle of the post evolving over the next 5 days.

  • Day 1: reached 14% of all viewers
  • Day 2: reached 21% of all viewers
  • Day 3: reached 34% of all viewers
  • Day 4: reached 76% of all viewers
  • Day 5: 100% of all viewers (up to that moment)

But when do you consider a post to be successful on LinkedIn?

When you post, you kind of “hope” your post reaches many (thousands of) people organically especially those beyond your network. The real truth is that we reach fewer people than we hope. Not even our full 1st-degree network does not get to see our posts today with thanks to the algorithm which leads me to the question posted at the top.

Then, LinkedIn is pretty poor when it comes to personal statistics, but what are you looking for in successful posts?

?? Impressions or Views

    ?? What is your average?

?? How many views are you shooting for every successful post?

?? How frequently do you get there?

?? Engagement

?? Are you looking for Likes?

?? Are you looking for Comments?

?? Are you looking for Shares?

What engagement % do you consider GREAT? 1%, 2%, 5% or even more?

Conclusions

?? Followers might see your posts but hardly react

?? Even short answers (A,B or C) do not make people answer more

?? Short answers like A,B or C are not helping you with the algorithm. My post only starts to move when a few people started commenting instead of just saying A,B or C.

?? In terms of engagement, getting 2 to 5% is great. Not that the more people see your post the harder it is to get to 5% engagement!
