What is Success?

Per Google, "Success" is defined as: the accomplishment of an aim or purpose; the attainment of popularity or profit; a person or thing that achieves desired aims or attains prosperity.

We see people with large homes, big businesses and flashy cars. Most commonly, these are considered "successful people" and regarding their financial worth this is probably true.

But are they really successful in life???

True Friends

Do these "successful" people have true friends that they can trust or are those people merely hanging around to benefit from the successful person?

I knew a very wealthy man. His home was worth millions. The art hanging on his wall was worth many more millions.

His only "friend" was an employee who hung around for the pay. His family didn't trust him. I was the closest thing to a real friend he had and he betrayed me over a $124 worth of pay (he was forced to pay it later).

Was this man successful?

If misery and loneliness are calculated as valuable, he was. His assets did not include friends nor trusting family members.

No Shirt

There's an old proverb about a King who came down with Melancholia. The cure for this was said to be the shirt of a happy man which the King must wear. To make a long story short, they found a happy man but he did not own a shirt. (There are several variations of this tale :-)

My friend, mentioned in the previous paragraph, had many fine shirts but he was not happy.

Happiness and Confidence

Friends and caring family provide you with resources though you may never use them. Just knowing the resources are there gives you happiness and confidence that everything will be okay.

Knowledge of life, the mind hugely help create confidence.

While I don't live in a 40 room mansion, I do sleep indoors and drive a very nice Prius V.

Many situations in life are difficult to resolve from inside the situation. It's like not being able to see the forest because of all the trees.

Simple questions can get a person to back up out of the trees and see the forest.
