WHAT IS SUBTITLING AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

WHAT IT IS

Subtitling is an effective means for facilitating the understanding of an audiovisual text. In fact, it makes it possible to broaden the range of users (meaning audience) of multimedia content, making it understandable and accessible even to the deaf and audiences abroad.

?

WHAT IT IS FOR

Videos are undoubtedly the content of the hour. Whether it's a YouTube spot or a recorded webinar, videos use modern, engaging language that appeals to audiences of young and old alike. However, it is important to consider the language constraint: only those who speak the same language can understand the meaning of the message, learn about a new product or follow a specific training course. Therefore, limiting your videos to a single language means missing the opportunity to reach a larger audience, or simply a different target audience (for example the deaf). If your video contains speech, even in the form of voice-overs, or overwritten text, translating this speech or text into another language means increasing the reach of the content itself and engaging an even wider and more diverse audience. And this is where subtitling confirms its effectiveness: thanks to the inclusion of subtitles translated into different languages, we can export any video and multimedia product, making it accessible to a foreign audience or specific user groups without making any changes to the original voices and dialogues.

?

HOW IT WORKS

We try to choose the best position for adding text on the screen for each video in order to avoid compromising important visual details, after which we choose the best performing font while considering ease of reading and font size. We also respect the timing of dialogue with the utmost fidelity, which must be suitable for smooth reading,?in sync with the pauses and conversations?of the characters in the video, or the voice-over content. Lastly, in order for a translation to meet expectations, it must maintain the same register and style used in the original text, thus not only reproducing the original message, but also the mode and intention with which it was conceived.

?

WE RECOMMEND SUBTITLING FOR:

  • Inserting the translations of dialogue into a video, webinar, or other media
  • Making an audiovisual product accessible to a deaf or hard of hearing audience
  • Internationalising a training course, corporate video, or commercial with multilingual subtitles
  • Improving the usability of editorial videos, especially if they are intended for mobile, increasing viewing time also without audio.
