I recently held a reunion for people who attended my 3-day virtual retreat in January. They're all high-achievers and we laughed as we reminisced how within a couple of hours of the retreat starting, the group collectively decided they no longer wanted to have goals! ??
During the actual retreat, I joked that we might have overcorrected on how to have more joy in our lives while going for what we desire. But I could see where they were coming from--I've been there, too.
I've been achieving what I wanted--having a relationship while working hard in my career and trying to be a good daughter and friend--and I was just so tired and stressed. I often thought how can I keep this going?!
And, I remember hearing about how SOME stress is actually good for you. We can go deep in the science here but to keep it simple, it can help you grow and move you toward ideal results. But too much leaves you feeling overwhelmed and too little leaves you feeling bored and complacent. So, how do we get the "perfect" amount of stress?
The Goldilocks of Stress
Below are the tenets that can help you "be" with and move forward with stress in a healthy way.
Have you ever been through anything difficult and thought how am I going to get through this? And, then you do! Some very difficult moments in my life have been when my Dad was dying, when I got divorced, and when I almost died due to a collapsed lung.
Now, these are all very extreme scenarios, but they made me stronger. What helped is following the tenets above and using tools to get me through those difficult moments. Along the way, I learned how to optimize those tools during more daily stressors--like work or repairing relationships--to be energized to get through them and thrive.
How to Get "Premium" Energy
I took those tools and put them together to create a way to generate, harness, and leverage what I like to call "premium" energy. This is when you can be productive and feel joy.

You should be able to excitedly and happily pursue your desires and invest your time in activities that feel good not draining. Your approach should also include having a system, a formula, and support that aligns with who you are and where you're headed next in life.
When you do, you'll be excited to get out of bed and start your day. Taking action will feel effortless and even fun to move forward. If you're not feeling that, ask yourself why?
