What story are you telling yourself?

I’m writing to you this morning from Buffalo, NY (my hometown) after spending last week in NYC for Hay House’s Author Mastermind
I remember the first time I attended, back in 2018, thinking I didn’t belong. Wondering how I got included to play with the big dogs. Telling myself a story that I was inadequate. But, the truth is, I deserved to be there just as much as anyone else. And I’m grateful to be here now, knowing my worth.
In this week’s edition of The Practice, you’ll have an opportunity to explore the stories you tell yourself that hold you back. And, the truth you need to remember.

Storytelling has been around for centuries, dating as far back as 36,000 years ago. Throughout history it’s been shown how deeply rooted storytelling is in our human nature and we’ve seen the growth that comes from sharing these stories.
However, not all of our stories are rooted in truth.
The stories we tell ourselves, about ourselves, are often false. We may not intentionally create these false narratives, however our subconscious is behind the scenes doing all the work.
We fabricate our stories based on long-held ideas we’ve created about the way the world works and our role within it, otherwise known as beliefs. We carefully craft our beliefs based on our experiences and what we made those experiences?mean?about?ourselves.
For example, you may have received feedback from a boss on a project you worked really hard on. Instead of acknowledging the constructive points, you immediately tell yourself the story that you’re not a good employee, you don’t do quality work, or maybe you even believe they don’t like you anymore.
At face value you may see these stories as true, but when you dig deeper you’re able to uncover what’s really at the root of your stories, a limiting shadow belief
