What Is Stillness? Two Answers.

What Is Stillness? Two Answers.

Today I'm sharing a brief but delightful animated video made by an old friend of mine, Jim George. He's a former Disney animator who likes to say he shifted from creating animated characters to reconnecting actual people with what animates their best life.

Just click on the picture, but please come back after you watch this 3-minute video:

Almost 20 years ago, Jim taught me that words can only take you so far.

He was the first to suggest to me that I could download more information by being still than I ever could by surfing the web. Since then, my best ideas have consistently come from emptying my mind.

What's the single best way to be still?

Meditate.

(You saw that coming, right?)

Yesterday, I spoke with another brilliant artist. Nic Askew makes Soul Biographies, which are short black and white films. He is a master at using stillness to find truth. Your truth.

After we spoke, he sent me a link to a four-minute excerpt from a podcast that sums up what he's been trying to achieve for many years. In it, I found this astonishing quote from Nic:

"If you were to still for a moment, your intelligence changes. It goes from your mind, to something much larger than your mind, something much deeper than your mind. And that's an incredible resource with which to lead one's life. It changes everything."

If you don't want to meditate, go walk in the woods (without your phone).

If you don't want to walk, just sit quietly.

However you access it, a consistent practice of accessing stillness will enrich your life.

Here are ways that I can support you:

  1. My website includes hundreds of articles on intuition, compassion, self-awareness, and choosing love over fear.
  2. I serve entrepreneurs as an executive coach.
  3. My Aperture program can bring more light into your life and career, for one-tenth the cost of hiring a coach.
  4. Bend Reality is the community I formed for expansive people who want to meet others of a similar nature. If it resonates with you, drop me a line and I'll tell you more.

To be still is simply being. It’s active. I was watching a sermon from Joseph Prince earlier today and he talked about being a fruitful branch connected to the vine. This makes sense to me. I can be still and bear good fruit simultaneously. As long as I stay connected to the vine (my source-God) I can live richly and abundantly in Him???? Meditation, aka prayer, works for me.

creativity arises from that "empty" space that grows in us like desire arises from lack. We need to create the conditions for this to happen. Thanks for the inspiring posts!
