What to (still) expect from LinkedIn in 2020

This year has been a “lost year” for a lot of people. I feel very uncomfortable when I hear that, and my first reaction is to think it’s not lost yet, but I keep hearing people repeating it. I guess it’s a way to process the major changes we have all been through, stop fighting the situation and adding a touch of resignation.

Maybe this approach makes some people feel better about themselves and about the things they had to give up or adjust due to the pandemic.

Maybe considering 2020 to be a “lost year” brings some kind of “internal peace” that helps them move on with their daily activities.

There must be a good reason why people keep repeating that almost like a mantra, but sorry, I still don’t get it.

Don’t get me wrong: my life also went upside down in the past months! I was already able to work remotely from anywhere in the world and manage my own business, and still, I had to change a lot of things to adjust to the new situation. I am not denying the global changes that affected all of us. I just resist accepting the “lost year” part.

2020 is not over yet - at least in the calendar. The way we manage our time, our relationships, our careers and our decisions will make all the difference in the results short term and long term. It probably won’t be easy to re-start some projects, others are definitely over due to situations we can’t control, but there is still time to do something…

LinkedIn, like many other social media platforms, “survived” coronavirus.

Actually, the time people spend on LinkedIn increased significantly in the past months.

People used to log into LinkedIn more from their mobile phones, and even that has changed recently: the number of people accessing from laptops and computers has increased a lot while we were all working from home. And how does it affect you?

People are paying more attention to what happens on LinkedIn. The content that is shared there is potentially getting more visibility and reaching out to more people than ever. It’s a simple and logical deduction:

If people are spending more time connected on LinkedIn, whatever you post there has more chances to be seen by more people.

Yet, some people consider that “it’s not the best moment to be on LinkedIn”. I partially agree with that, if we consider that some companies are hiring fewer candidates than before, or clients are more reluctant when buying some services or products. But what if business is still happening there, and the actions you take now can give you results in a few weeks, and also in months?

Tony Robbins said that “change happens in an instant”. Yes, and the instant is located in a context, in a process, in a sequence of actions. I don’t think he meant to say changes happen “out of nowhere, by miracle”. You need to be in the situation, already there, to have that “aha moment” and make the change happen.

So, is LinkedIn the place “where magic happens” in 2020?

Time will show. All the data we have so far is saying that more and more people are using the platform now, much more than before. Where there are people, there are problems, and problems need solutions. What kind of solutions do you offer to the world?

Your ideal client could be connected on LinkedIn at this very moment. A recruiter could be posting a new position on LinkedIn in that company you have been wanting to work for years. A corporation you admire could share today a new project they have just started that is completely aligned with your skills and expertise.

Does any of that guarantee that LinkedIn will “save your life” in 2020?

I wish we could find one single thing that will save our lives in this crazy year so far! On the other hand, if we are a bit more flexible, and we are looking for things in which to invest our time that will most likely bring excellent results, then LinkedIn is definitely a good option.

There are more important things than LinkedIn in the world right now. I would be a lunatic if I didn’t acknowledge that. As life keeps going on, considering that (some) of us are safe and healthy, problems will appear, and people will look for solutions.

A solution could be starting a new collaboration, hiring someone new to the team, buying a specific product, purchasing an online course or paying a consultant. Which problems do you solve?

Can people find you on LinkedIn properly if they are looking for solutions to problems you can solve?

? I will start in the next days a “LinkedIn Challenge” group.

I will give you tools and activities to build up your confidence using LinkedIn, share what other experts also say about the use of the platform, and have your back covered when you struggle or have questions. I will guarantee that you have an “All-star” profile, and we will go way beyond that - because it’s already proven that a nice looking and optimized profile alone, without an effective use of LinkedIn, won’t bring you the results you want.

? If you wish to be added to the waiting list, and receive information about the group first hand, please send me a direct message or comment below.
