What standards & regulations affect a construction & engineering lab?

Like other materials testing labs, construction and engineering laboratories have their fair share of standards and regulations that affect or drive their activities. A great number of standardized test methods exist for labs, though adoption of those methods through accreditation to laboratory quality standards such as ISO/IEC 17025 is heterogeneous due to differences across local, state, and national accrediting and regulating bodies. Regardless, the best construction and geotechnical labs are at a minimum incorporating standardized, repeatable test methods into the materials they test. The adoption of those methods are also in part driven by regulations and guidelines mandating a certain level of quality and safety in whatever is getting constructed, as well as where it’s getting constructed.
