From a subscriber: "What are some ways to connect with a target market that’s not defined by a demographic??i.e. recently widowed or divorced."?


Three ideas:


  • Interview 20 people who went through a recent divorce and find out the top five questions/challenges they faced financially. Post on social media and write blogs answering these questions in a creative and fresh way and propose new ideas that nobody else has ever thought of. If you don't know anyone who went through a divorce, look on Reddit forums.
  • Find the top 3 podcasts on divorce, and contact every guest for the last 6 to 12 months using social media. Start following their posts and learn what they post about, what influencers (CPAs, attorneys) follow them, what people respond to the best, etc. Comment intelligently on these posts. Try to connect with some of these followers and develop your own audience to listen to you talk about this.
  • Use SEO and become the top ranked blog on Google for financial questions that people ask when they are about to get a divorce. Here is a blog on Google tips. Here is a hint - "how to get a divorce in [insert state name]" is usually a pretty good keyword to rank for.
