What are some things mentally ill people are tired of hearing?

“Outcomes of any mental health illnesses are affected by the surroundings and people’s attitude to a huge extent”

For as long as I can remember, I have struggled with OCD and ADHD. The journey was a roller coaster, from physical exams, online counseling sessions, and multiple medication changes.?

Things have changed drastically in my mental health journey since I undertook the best online counseling in India, but one thing that has remained the same is the ill-informed judgments and insensitive questions and remarks.

Although there have been many positives too, with people being genuinely curious and asking their questions with sincerity.

So here’s a list of all the things people with mental illnesses are tired of hearing and why you should skip on these while talking to someone going through the same! It’s all in the head, or "snap out of it."

I would not be exaggerating if I said that I have lost count of the number of times I have heard this one.

In fact, one of the first problems I discussed during my online counseling sessions was this same remark.

Sadly, this is not what people usually mean when they say that a mental illness is "all in your head." Rather, this is a judgmental assertion that this disorder is not real.?

Unfortunately, it’s almost impossible to snap out of a mental illness. These are serious diagnoses and require proper treatment, including online psychological counselling.

You don’t need medication, or why are you on medication?

I’ve felt so uncomfortable with this question or remark, partly because the other person does not know why I took the medication.

The last thing any of us needs is for others to pass judgment on us because we choose to take psychiatric medication as part of our treatment, which can be a life-altering and extremely beneficial component of treatment along with the best online counseling.

Even I get hyper-anxious, I like to coordinate my kitchen

Whenever I tell someone about my OCD and ADHD, they try to respond back with statements like, "Oh, even I can’t focus on tasks" "I like to color coordinate my stationery like a madman" or "I’m always messy too."

Such assumptions have been extremely detrimental to my health and, to a great extent, belittle the diagnosis.

If someone feels they are suffering from mental health illnesses, they should seek free online therapy in India. But passing on insensitive comments is never it!

Conclusion?

Having lived with my diagnosis for years, dealing with mental health illnesses is difficult. Although medication and online mental health counselling have been transformative, the process can be complicated by the negative remarks and judgement we receive from all around!
