What are the most effective ways to demonstrate your value to your organization?

Communicate effectively, keep stakeholders informed, &develop strong interpersonal skills. Be a team player, support colleagues, &consistently deliver high-quality work on time to build trust. The organization that I work in ensures that personal goals are aligned with the unit or command's mission. This is through submission and monitoring of a "personal scorecard" that represents scaled-down metrics of the "Unit Scorecard".

Showing exactly what problems you can solve is by far most honest way to show how much value you can deliver because at the end of the day this is how it is going to be measured. However this becomes a little tricky if you’re solving a problem that not many people know about. In that case you need to explain the problem before you offer a solution and that makes your value less obvious.

The best way to communicate your impact is not to say it, but to show it - quantify your achievements. Sometimes it is hard to remember exactly how much you did on a project. To avoid wasted time trying to recall details of prior accomplishments or forgetting them altogether, write down each task you complete immediately thereafter. These journal entries of your successes will make quanitifying your value much easier. Seeing all that you have achieved will also give you more confidence in all that you do.

Assess the dominant cultural values of your entity. Evaluate the extent to which it is consistent with its publicly stated values. If consistent, and if you share the dominant culture, then identify the entity's preferred medium of communicating employee impact and comply with it. If you do not share the dominant culture, show your value by leaving.
