What Soccer Does Part 6
We're excited for you all to meet another star team member in our "What Soccer Does" series! This time the spotlight is on our Senior Director of Programs - Michael Vaughan-Cherubin
?Read through as we dive into Michael's journey, from shaping game-changing projects like #JustBall to his unwavering commitment to leveling the playing field.
Q: What is your favorite part about working at the U.S. Soccer Foundation??
A: I know its cliche, but it's the people. Over the 11 years that I have been here I have met the smartest, kindest, hardest working people. They are fun, but also push me to be better each day.?
Q: How does soccer inspire you (either personally or professionally)??
A: I think soccer is the world's game because it's as simple as it is beautiful. What's tragic is we've made it hard to reach for many communities in this country. Families are driven away by the cost, travel or culture. I'm inspired to make this game, and the learning opportunities that come with it, accessible to every kid in this country.? ???
Q: ?As the Senior Director of Programs, what has been the most impactful project you’ve worked on??
领英推荐
A: I got the opportunity to help build our Soccer for Success National Training. An event that brings together staff from our partner organizations to be trained as trainers. The experience in creating the model and content for this event was challenging and gratifying. However, experiencing the event itself exceeded my highest expectations. The learning, bonding, and growing that now takes place each year at the National Training gives me chills. I am humbled by the way our partners from across the country commit to using soccer for social change. Oh, and we have fun there too ??. ?
Q: What’s the biggest impact your program has on children in underserved communities??
A: Just Ball League is so important right now. Low and no cost leagues are becoming a thing of the past across the country. If?you can't pay - you can't play. Just Ball is the solution. It's all about activating small safe places to play for the kids that need it most. We'll bring the soccer ball. Just show up, and "Just Ball"!?
Q: What brings you the most joy outside of work??
A: I love to travel. Last year I was lucky enough to visit Brazil and Vietnam. What never ceases to amaze?me - is wherever I go - soccer is there.?
?
