What is smokers gap in passenger car window and critical points and test method- Designer Inputs

The people who smokes during driving partially opens the Window glass and this opening is called as " Smokers Gap"

There is field complaint from customers that in the smokers gap condition the window glass creates rattling noise.

The primary reason for this rattling noise is the glass is not properly engage with the glass run channel in the smokers gap condition.

The window glass lifting plate and window regulator rail or channel mating surface design and clearance is very important and If the rail and lifting plate clearance is more then it leads to the rattling noise.

The wind glass lifting plate material and the window regulator rail coating material pairing is critical. If the RPN value is more then this will lead to stick slip effect and will cause " Creak Noise" which is an additional non conformity of the window regulator mechanism
