Every decade or 15 years, IT Industry witnesses a spin or new innovation in computing. From Mainframe era to mini computers to personal computers to web era. And now, we are witnessing yet another change in IT Industry. As we all are already aware we are into an IoT era. This era comprised of Social Mobile Analytics and Cloud technologies (SMAC). These days, the 4 pillars of any business innovation are Social, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud. 

SMAC helps businesses

  •  Get closer to customer & at the same time reach maximum customers faster.
  • Get higher revenues with quick turnarounds.
  • Reach customers with appropriate business models.
As per Gartner report, by 2017, SMAC trends will drive >26% of the total enterprise software market revenue.

But the question which is often asked is WHY? Why is SMAC trending these days? 

Now some more facts and figure:

  • 25% of productivity increased by social collaborations and social media.
  • 75% of the world's population have a mobile or hand held devices.
  • 65% competitive edge is achieved by analyzing the data.
  • 60% of CIOs indicate Cloud is one of the top priorities.

Huge amount of data, that is being created by mobile devices, sensors, social media and web browsing helps in create new business models. Since this is customer generated data, such data is useful in coming close to the customers and understanding the needs of the customers.

While each of the four technologies can impact a business individually and these technologies exists without interference, their convergence is proving to be a disruptive force that is creating entirely new business models for service providers. The synergy created by social, mobile, analytics and cloud working together that creates a competitive advantage. 

Basic objectives of SMAC is to provide rapid connectivity, collaboration and speeding up the flow of information among the team members, partners and most important with the end user.

By 2020, 100 billion computing devices will be connected to the web and companies will be processing 50 times more data.

Social media has provided businesses with new ways. Social media have improved ways we can reach and interact with customers. Mobile technologies have changed the way people communicate, shop and work. Analytics and data analysis allows businesses to understand how, when, what and where consumer needs are. Cloud computing provides a new way to access technology, new way to make business available on web and the data a business needs to quickly respond to changing markets and solve business problems.

SMAC will derive around 90% of all growth in market by 2020.
