Sixty years ago, Sewa, 25 then, was an auto rickshaw driver in Mumbai.
He did not like the job and left it.
Next he joined as a weaver.
He fought with the manager and left.
He came back to village.
All were mad at him.
Hints came thick and fast.
To stave them off he joined a gang of earth diggers.
They were digging a canal.
He discovered his computing prowess. ?He would compute the amount of dug-up earth in a snap.
The supervisor took minutes to do that.
He could rattle off table of numbers and of their fractions. That came handy.
In those days of yard, foot, and inch the table of fractions bossed the computing scenario.
Supervisor gave him the job of computing.
Sewa never looked back.
He died the top ranked contractor and a multimillionaire.
He hopped the jobs to match his knack with the chore, not for money.
Do you agree?
