What should you look for in a YouTuber [smartphone reviewer]?

How many times have you noticed YouTubers simply reading out the specifications of smartphones?

I think the majority of YouTube channels are doing just that.

I could name some of the biggest YouTubers, and you'd be surprised. But let's leave names aside and focus on more important things.

So, what should you look for in a YouTuber for a smartphone review?

Of course, you don't just want them to say, "Premium segment smartphone with vegan leather finish." Let me give you my two cents.

Look for authenticity

Do you know why MKBHD is the top reviewer?

He's very authentic. Money has never been his primary focus; rather, he aims to make an impact on people's lives through authentic reviews.

Michael Fisher, for example, is another YouTuber who is very clear and authentic about his sponsorships.

But many YouTubers simply try to appear authentic while taking endorsements from brands to promote their products.

Unsubscribe if they just read specs

Again, most YouTubers are seen reading specs only.

Only a few focus on original thoughts. For example, Dave Lee, in his Pixel 9 review, quotes, "The Google Pixel is good, but the AI alone isn't worth the increased pricing."

This is what we, as an audience, need in a review.

Another example is the Gyan Therapy channel, which always addresses the questions a general user would ask.

Being invited to events doesn't guarantee quality

If YouTubers are invited to events, it doesn't mean they're the best.

Mr. WhoseTheBoss wasn't invited to the Google event because he criticized last year's Pixel devices on his channel.

Choose your youtuber wisely

Yes, there's a lot going on behind the scenes between YouTubers and brands. You have to be careful when choosing your go-to smartphone reviewer on YouTube.
