What should we post on LinkedIn?
Dear LinkedIn Network. Today I′m asking a question for a friend......(not)
?
When I joined LinkedIn (years back) I found it encouraging to do business networking like this. People shared important updates from their companies, you kept track when someone in your network moved position or changed company. All this is of great interest.
Then you have the opportunity to follow companies of interest, start-ups or big ones, product groups and organisations. Basically followed all and everything I felt was important for me to do a better job and to expand my knowledge and to understand key drivers in the industry of interest.
I might be old school in terms of age but really believe I'm at the front foot on a lot of what's happening in the industry of my concern.?
The question I′m asking you my network today!
Have LinkedIn become less interesting, and less important?
The reason I ask this questions is that companies I'm following (and theres a lot of them) which are more focused on telling internal stories about their employees , social gatherings, and how brilliant they are internally. I understand this is important to use LinkedIn as a recruitment platform but could we separate it? Do I need to know? could we get a function to flag this that we only want business related topics?
You can experience colleagues sitting next to each other endorsing each other on LinkedIn! Honestly! I rather go and tell the person you are super brilliant! What happen to good business stories and customer engagement stories. Are we washing away the borderline between LinkedIn and Facebook?
I′m not super grumpy old school just wanted to ask my network are you feeling the same?
Take care and would love to hear your feedback on this.

1 年From a personal point of view. Then I post what interests me from a work perspective. I think you are somewhat right about what the company does. Most companies post a lot internally about the people who work there, and about social events. Everything to give the best possible impression to potential new employees or clients. Great to see that the companies put a lot of time and resources into employees and social events. At the same time, I think that you are drowning in these posts, and that they are becoming more and more uninteresting. Perhaps one should shift the focus a little to WHAT the company does, and what the company is passionate about. Maybe you reach your audience faster.

1 年It is an interesting question. There's lots of things posted that I might question the relevance of to LinkedIn. However, they are informative of the people who post them and allow us to form an impression of them. That might not be their intention of course! I typically post something I find entertaining each week. Its not a business post but i hope that it helps to inform people of what I am about. Overall, I'm of the opinion that more communication is better than less, even if some of it is not necessarily relevant to me.

1 年Like all things in life I believe this comes down to balance. As you say many companies are sharing internal news and updates, as I suspect their goal is to enhance employer branding and attract new recruits. Plus in reality it's easier content to create! However, this is only addressing one audience, and in reality companies have multiple audiences. Therefore, like all good communication it's important to determine you audience and ensure content is mapped and created for each. Interested to hear other views too.
