The job interview:
To interview effectively you need to communicate effectively through words, appropriate tone of voice, proper posture and positive images of yourself. Of course, this does not go far, there are many elements that arise during the job interview to keep in mind to do (or avoid) to have higher chances of having a successful interview.
Now, what should we consider for a job interview? Here are some Tips that may be helpful:
Before the Interview
Plan and prepare:
? Find out about the profile of the company. Learn everything you can about the company before going to the appointment.
? Keep in mind a specific job and a list of your skills in accordance to the job requirements.
? Think of questions you can ask your interviewer.
? Practice with a friend.
? Anticipate the questions you will be asked so you can be sure that the things that matter will be discussed during the interview.
? Study your skills, your experience and education. Find out what are your strengths and explode them.
? Take your CV and know it well because they are based on it to ask. It may be helpful to keep a list of references, small notebook and pencil.
? Get a list of your weaknesses and prepare arguments to defend them.
? Sleep well the night before so you can be mentally alert for the interview.
During the Interview
Arriving:
? If you receive a letter for the interview, call to confirm your attendance
? Do not go to the appointment with sunglasses
? Check your appearance. Avoid wearing flashy clothes or too casual (Find out about the colors that suit you for an interview).
? It is always advisable to be well dressed, clean shaven.
? Get to the appointment alone. This shows confidence and independence.
? Arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to anticipate unexpected traffic problems and relax a bit.
In the Interview:
? Be careful with breathing too hard and not get sweaty.
? Greet the interviewer in a friendly and professional manner.
? Clearly indicate your name and the reason of the meeting.
? Do not be the first to offer hand, but if he/she gives it to you then shake hands firmly.
? Sit down when you are asked. If don't then ask if you can sit. Try to relax as much as possible.
? Sit up straight. Make good eye contact and lean slightly forward on the seat. Show a friendly and sincere interest in the job.
? Behave so you can show you're sure of yourself but not overconfident
? Listen and show interest in what the interviewer says and his/her questions. This will avoid asking about topics that have already been treated.
? Speech by focusing on what you are asked and not try to be too clever or funny.
? Do not talk too fast. Try to stay calm, express yourself clearly and in a mean tone.
? Do not talk too much, not too little
? Beware of informal and seek professional expressions. Avoid negative connotations of words.
? Maintain eye contact during the interview
? Explain to the employer your willingness to learn and to accept responsibilities.
? Identify the skills you can talk about if you do not have the required experience (Important in case of not having enough experience).
? Ask about the possibilities of promotion, the company or the job
? Show enthusiasm for work (but do not beg)
? Sell your competition, not your needed employment.
? Use the words "please" and "thank you” at appropriate moments
? Shows interest in the work saying, "I hope you will consider me for this job “or "I'm very interested in this position because ..."
Exams:
? If there is an application, complete it carefully. Ask about something you do not understand.
? Do not use improper grammar and indistinct diction.
? Wait quietly while the interviewer looks over your application.
Questions:
? Do not answer evasively or show doubts. Do not use monosyllabic.
? Do not wait too long to respond.
? Do not act cutting or use crutches.
? Answer the questions directly and truthfully. It is important to give clear and brief answers.
? Always speak the truth.
? If he/she ask you about you: Emphasize your training, experience and results of your work.
? Do not refuse to answer questions. But in case of questions completely out of place (some interviewer could use them) just say that in your opinion the matter is irrelevant to deduct your suitability for the position.
? Ask questions you consider important.
Avoid:
? Bring relatives, friends or children.
? Ask questions only about pay and benefits (Let the interviewer talk about it).
? Act as if you were to get this job no matter what.
? Interrupt.
? Give petty excuses.
? Chew gum, smoke, play with your hair or constantly adjust your clothes
? Read papers or touching objects that are in the interviewer's desk.
? Bring anything bulky to the interview.
? Do not discuss personal problems or problems with previous employers. Also, do not speak ill of the companies in which you worked.
? Act nervously or use gestures that indicate it as nail biting, hitting with the pen on the table, shake in the seat, among others.
? Do not approach a lot to him/her
? Do not put your elbows on the table
? Do not cross your arms, it may seem that you are on the defensive.
? If you are offered a drink you can accept it but not alcohol (obviously).
After the Interview:
? Thank the interviewer when the interview is finished.
? After the interview make a phone call to follow up or send a letter of thanks. Contact the interviewer at the appropriate time.
? Analyze the results: Do a list of strengths and weaknesses. This may serve for a second interview or for future interviews at other companies.
? Keep learning.
? Make effective monitoring.
