What should the future of leadership look like?
Courage is a Leadership Superpower

What should the future of leadership look like?

A client reached out with a keynote request and shared the following:

“We need something along the lines of compassionate leadership. I think there are times when our leaders get so focused on the day to day operations and hitting the numbers that they don’t handle people as well as they could.?When something bad happens in an employee’s personal life and they are out of office, it becomes a crisis for the manager. The manager feels shorthanded and neglects to show empathy to the employee who is struggling with something."

Despite the challenge noted they were also managing budget caps for leadership development.

Unfortunately, many managers lack the skills required for showing compassion and civility while managing day to day operations to hit the numbers when short on staff.

Our experience designing and delivering keynotes and workshops for both emerging and seasoned leaders suggests many managers will roll their eyes if required or invited to attend a keynote or workshop on compassionate leadership.

Yet there is a far more effective topic that will resonate for people who roll their eyes and yet could benefit from a message on civility and compassion.?

The topic is COURAGEOUS Leadership.

Courage empowers and enables leaders to be tough and clear on standards AND kind hearted with their people. Especially when the circumstances are difficult, challenging and require compassion and civility.

Courage is the superpower skill because it allows for ALL other skills. And the good news is, courage can be trained, observed and measured. The clients loved the idea yet the budget cap was so low we had to decline.

That said, truly successful companies are will to double down on investing in and developing leaders with courage skills. Courageous leaders are curious, they ask provocative questions, listen to learn, and engage in the kind of challenging conversations that empower and enable others to do brave work–work that matters!
