What Not To Share On Your Business Social Media Page

Cultivating an interesting social media presence for your business can be a difficult task, and often times shock tactics are tempting. Sensational posts or aggressive ads can seem like a great way to get the attention of potential customers, but these types of posts can actually be highly destructive.

Here are some things to avoid posting on your business social media.

Do Not Post Religious, Political or Controversial Topics

While it may seem tempting to take a stance on highly discussed topics to try to gain support, this is actually a bad idea. Though some potential customers may sympathize with your stance, others will be alienated by it. In addition, topics that are trending tend to go in and out of style and favor, so it can be difficult to predict how people will react to a post long run. Unless an issue is directly related to your business, do not engage or post on possibly divisive topics. Learn more how to build a business online

Do Not Promote Too Heavily

Yes, the purpose of your business social media page is to promote your business. However, people tend not to appreciate being bombarded with sales pitches and ads, and will eventually just start scrolling past your posts if they find them irritating. Make sure that you are not just posting ads and promotions, but also interesting, related content that your client base will be drawn in by. This includes attacking competitors; especially accounting for how difficult it is to convey tone in brief social media posts, never go on the offensive on social media.

Do Not Engage with Negative Forces

Just because you are savvy enough to avoid becoming overly negative on social media does not mean your competitors or opposition will be. If someone leaves an angry comment or a competitor posts something against you, do not engage them in a passionate way. Leave a calm reply to an angry commenter, the same as you would any other customer. Do not directly reply to attacks from competitors, as this can easily devolve into a petty dispute. Instead, post a new promotion or interesting aspect from your company to keep your followers interested.

Social media should be used to promote your company and keep your customers interested, rather than try to bring down others.
