What is the sexiest job now?

Last week I was talking to a group of youngsters in a NYC innovation forum on the topic, "What is the sexiest job now?". Gist of the debate is given here.

The term ‘sexy’ is subjective. Each of us have our own definition of it. Mostly, the pay/benefits, demand, job flexibility, promising future and the employer's brand are the attributes of a 'sexy' job. Everyone has their own pick of what they think the sexiest job is. No one can debate with that.

The conversation with the group was interesting. Check it out!

"How did you choose your majors in the school?"

For my question, they all said that it was their personality, academic goals and most importantly their interest helped them commit to a field of study.

Going behind what is attractive is a human sense. As long as there is an interest, we keep on trying to achieve what we want. Until then, we stay unsatisfied. Same is the case on the job.

"How many of you change the major in the due course?"

90% of the hands went up. It is not the interest, but their ability to meet the academic goals dictated if they stayed on track or changed the major.

When we run behind what's attractive, what it takes to achieve the target dictates us to keep on hunting or change our target. This is true for schools and jobs.

"Did you worry about your parents or friends with regard to your academic success?"

Everyone raised hands. For many of us the success attributes are what we perceive others may have for us.?It is easier for me to say now - What a shame!!

"How many of you feel that you failed in your journey, because you changed your field of interest?"

No one raised their hands. The whole experience taught them the realities and every one of them started working on a plan to go from 'here'. (Impressive!!)

"Now that your career starts, are you satisfied with your jobs?"

Only 2 in the group of 20 people raised their hands. Most of them feel that they have settled for something lesser.

Most of us compare ourselves with others who are better off than we are, and feel dissatisfied. Some of us compare ourselves with those who are worse off than we are, and feel satisfied. Both are bad. We got to just focus on ourselves and figure out what makes us happy.?

"How do you reach your dream jobs?"

Working hard, developing self, networking to improve awareness, getting help, and keep on trying - is what I got. I am sure they will put their best efforts to achieve their goals.

There are many similarities between how we felt at school and how we feel at work. The patterns are similar, but the experiences will be very different. Our knowledge, experience, and maturity make the difference. After all is said and done, we will learn the fact that every job is 'sexy' as long as we enjoy doing it.?

So tell me. What is the sexiest job? Are you doing one?
