What Services Does COMUNICA Offer?
Tina Julsgaard
Founder of Comunica - I help businesses reach customers and grow in the Nordics through human-powered language solutions enhanced by AI. ??
As a modern language-service provider, COMUNICA can do a lot more for you than simply translate and localise texts. We also offer a range of services relating to marketing and the written word, from copywriting and marketing localisation to multilingual SEO and desktop publishing. Plus, we can also assist with the translation of specialised texts and semi-automated translation services such as machine-translation post-editing.
?
COMUNICA’s clients can avail of as many of these different services as they need, and we can help you tailor a solution depending on the objectives and the purpose of your text or website. You can find the full list of services on our website but to help you get a quick overview of what we offer, let’s embark on a quick run-through of some of our most popular service offerings:
?
Marketing localisation
?
Naturally, translation is our key focus area at COMUNICA, but this involves more than simply swapping one word for another. We offer a full marketing localisation service which means we draw on our expert cultural and market knowledge to adapt your text to its new context. This stretches from simple edits like updating currencies and units of measurement to more involved changes such as adapting cultural references and reshaping the figurative language. The purpose of this is to give your text the best possible chances of succeeding in its new market by reaching readers with a language that feels familiar and inspires confidence. Learn more here.

Multilingual copywriting
?
Besides translating your texts, at COMUNICA we can also create them scratch – and in whatever language or languages you need. All you need to do is provide us with a brief explaining the types of texts you need – whether they be newsletter texts, blog posts, web pages or something else entirely – and what purpose they ought to serve – from convincing customers to sign up to a newsletter to explaining your services in the simplest and most accessible way. We will then make sure to craft texts that are engaging, grammatically flawless and as concise or as lengthy as you need them to be.
?
Multilingual copywriting may also be a suitable option if you are launching in a new market and feel your existing texts are unsuitable. We can also combine copywriting with transcreation – meaning that we take your existing texts and use them as a springboard for creating brand new, tailored copy in the new language. There are many possibilities, and we will be happy to discuss all your options when you get in touch.
?
Search-engine optimisation
?
Whether we’re translating or copywriting, we can incorporate search-engine optimisation into any of the texts we create – and we can also review and adapt your existing texts to keep them up to date with the latest guidance for popular search engines such as Google and Bing.
?
If you aren’t sure what search-engine optimisation means, it is quite simply the process of adapting a text to include keywords and follow certain rules to make sure it will appear highly on search engine results pages. Businesses do this because research has shown that internet users rarely venture beyond the first page of search results. This means that if your website doesn’t make it onto this page, it doesn’t matter how good or well-crafted the copy is – nobody will see it.
?
Good search engine optimisation requires expert knowledge on the internal workings of search engines, and the ability to seamlessly weave key terms into any text, no matter the challenges. Not to mention an understanding of how the rules and term vary across languages and cultures. In short, SEO is one of the most important services we offer at COMUNICA and something we recommend for any text that will be appearing online.

Machine-translation post-editing
?
领英推荐
As machine translation tools grow increasingly sophisticated, machine-translation post-editing, or MTPE, has become an increasingly popular service within the translation and localisation sector. Basically, this is a hybrid process that involves using an MT tool to pre-translate a text before then subjecting it to an editing and review stage undertaken by a human linguist.
?
MTPE is not suitable for all text types and it has its limitations. For example, machine translation tools tend to stick more closely to the original syntax and word order than what a human translation might do, and so its output is less creative and original. However, it can be suitable in certain cases, such as formulaic texts or high-volume texts that would be far too costly to have translated in full by a human.
?
At COMUNICA, we can advise you on the suitability of your text for MTPE and we also offer different levels of post-editing and proofreading depending on your needs and budget. If you are considering MTPE for your next translation project, take a look at our MTPE service page or get in touch with one of our PMs to talk through the options.

Subtitling translation
?
Words are not just for the page and in our multi-screen, highly digital world, more and more content is making the transition from static blocks of text to dynamic words appearing on screen. Younger generations in particular prefer video content to written content, and the inclusion of subtitles and other textual elements on screen has now become standard.
?
At COMUNICA, we offer a range of different approaches to subtitling. We can create subtitles from scratch, we can translate existing subtitles and we can also help with the translation and creation of other textual elements for video integration. All in an effort to help your video content reach across borders, allowing you to communicate in a more engaging and dynamic way. Click here to learn more.

Desktop publishing
?
One of the challenges of translation is the fact that the word count will vary from language to language, and this affects the layout. For example, German and the Scandinavian languages use lots of compound words, so a string of three or four words in English might become one mammoth word in Danish or Swedish. Like indholdsfortegnelse, for example, which means ‘table of contents’ in Danish.
?
This means that when the translation is squeezed back into its original packaging, headings can get shifted, blank pages can spring up and your beautiful layout can generally become a bit cluttered and messy. Compounding the problem is the fact that graphic designers often may not understand the translated text, making it difficult for them to know how to reformat the document or brochure.
?
Our desktop publishing service exists to counteract this problem. Our multilingual graphic designers can look over the target document and undertake all of the reformatting work necessary to ensure it matches the original in its elegance and style. This means less for you to think about and documents that are ready for use right from the moment they are redelivered to you.
