WHAT IS A “SENSITIVITY TEST”?
Smoke detectors are designed to activate at a certain level
of smoke detection. If they are too sensitive it can
cause false alarms, and if not sensitive enough, can
result in slow or no detection of smoke. This level
can change over time. A sensitivity test measures if
the actual threshold of detection is within the specified
range.
WHEN IS IT REQUIRED?
The Fire Alarm Code (NFPA 72) requires an initial
sensitivity test within one year after installation, and
every two years thereafter.
