What is the secret to high heat pump efficiencies?

Two heat pump installers walk into a bar…

?

One is a typical (average by British standards) heat pump installer.

?

The other is trained by heat pump experts to a very high standard and has significantly greater experience working with heat pumps.

?

Will they get different results from installing the same heat pump in similar homes?

?

A few months ago, Heat Geek put together an efficiency comparison of the heat pumps installed by their own trained / accredited installers and the average UK heat pump installation.

?

Installations by their elite installer teams reached an average SCOP of 4.49, compared to the MCS’s minimum design SCOP (and the UK’s average SCOP) of 2.8.

?

Assuming a SCOP of 2.8 and an average annual heating cost of £2.000, with a SCOP of 4.25, the annual heating cost would fall to £1.320.

?

This equates to savings of £680 per year, or a total of £17.000 in savings for the 25-year lifespan of the heat pump - JUST BECAUSE OF PROPER INSTALLATION! ?? ?? ??

?

As you can see, proper installation makes all the difference in the world!

?

Now, some may be skeptical and think that this could be a fluke, poor experiment sampling or some other error.

?

In my experience these numbers are about right and make sense.

?

You may know TermoPlus as a European heat pump manufacturer, but we are also one of the largest heat pump installers in Slovenia too.

?

That’s how we get firsthand feedback for improving our products. Our engineers have extensive experience years in the field, installing, designing, and building heat pumps.

?

That’s why I can say that we are fortunate enough to also reach very high SCOPs, in comparison to the average installation.

?

Paying attention to proper design really does pay dividends.

?

Heat pump performance can vary significantly when sizing and installation aren’t optimal, and heat pump owners that don’t get great results share their disappointment with others.

?

It is in the best interest of our industry (and the world as a whole, since heat pumps are the only practical way of decarbonizing heating) to make sure that heat pumps don’t get a bad rep due to poor installation work.

?

We need to see heat pumps flourish and become as ubiquitous as the washing machine and fridge.

?

For this to happen, we need heat pump owners to spread their love and excitement for their treasured energy saving investment.

?

That’s why we need to see heat pump installations improve in output across the board!

?

Luckily, Heat Geek offer courses (?? links below) to transfer their installation expertise to installers. I see this as a very welcome outcome, which our sector should strongly applaud and encourage.

?

It would be great to see heat pump expertise trickle down into all sorts of geographical markets as we really want people to get the most out of their heat pumps.

?

Heat Geek secured a €4.3 million in financing just last week, so I hope to see their installation wizardry ???? spread across the UK (and further) helping the humble heat pump get the recognition it really deserves.

?

If you’re an installer and you’re not too happy with your current results, GO FORTH, I say and EXCEL! Check out the Heat Geek training (link below).

This must be repeated every single day, so that all will with the time tink differently as today... ????

While not ROTFLMAO 'treacle down' did give me a minor giggle fit. Knowledge does often flow like treacle, unless you serve it up warm, Could that be a typo? May I suggest 'trickle down' could be a better fit? (:-)

hmm put a monetary value on the heat being produced and a monetary value on the cool you all cannot talk about and then tell a client your efficient at what ? Im told in future emissions displaced into an environment using electrical energy will be measured as kilowatts care to suggest what a heat pump produces when reversed ?

The first secret is buying equipment that is going to do the job out hhe box. The rest is easy. Unfortunately not many units are very good at doing the job, most have to be fine tuned and fettled, like a racing car, by highly skilled engineers to get a reasonable performance level. Heat Geek 's do have this level of understanding.
