Streams are a way to handle reading or writing data continuously in Node.js. They provide an efficient mechanism to work with large data, as they do not require loading the entire dataset into memory. Instead, data is processed in chunks, making them ideal for handling files, network communications, or any operation that involves a large amount of data.

Streams are instances of the EventEmitter class and emit events at various stages of the processing lifecycle.

Types of Streams:

1.??Readable Streams: These represent a source of data from which you can read. Example: fs.createReadStream() to read a file.

  • Key Methods: .pipe(), .read()
  • Events: 'data', 'end', 'error'

2.??Writable Streams: These represent a destination to which you can write data. Example: fs.createWriteStream() to write to a file.

  • Key Methods: .write(), .end()
  • Events: 'drain', 'finish', 'error'

3.? Duplex Streams: These are both readable and writable, meaning data can be written to and read from the same stream. Example: TCP sockets.

4. Transform Streams: A type of duplex stream where the output is computed based on the input. Example: compression and encryption operations.
