What Robbie Williams taught me tonight

Tonight I had the privilege of attending one of the most impressive concerts I have been to: Robbie Williams at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie. While topics like this are likely to be perceived as too ?facebookian“ for LinkedIn, there are a few thoughts I‘d like to share that might go well with the image-optimized self promotion we all tend to do here on the platform.

Robbie Williams shared very personal stories about his long struggle with depression, about his painful way of becoming sober from alcohol and substance abuse, about how lonely, desperate and isolated he felt when being alone in his hotelroom after playing stadium shows. How - at one point - he hated himself and his life, although he was at the peak of his career. And how he needed to learn to love himself and make a decision for life.

I was taking two thoughts with me from tonite:

How much courage must it take as a born performer and archetype of entertainer to open up and show so much vulnerability in front of 2.000 people who were actually expecting him to entertain them. And believe me, no - his stories were not amusing. They were scary.

And more over I was reminded: It is not about the status we reach, it is not about our achievements or what we are posting here. It is about how much we accept and appreciate ourselfs, it is about how we feel when we are by ourselfs. Do we feel content? Do we feel fine and at peace? That is what we should strive for, that is where we should direct our attention. And speak about it if it‘s not the case. Because we have the right to love ourselves.?

Sometimes we loose this thought in all the noise and clutter. Maybe we should skip a post more often and instead take the moment to listen more closely within us.

Thank you Mr Williams for reminding me of this and for letting us in into the darker voids of your life. And the revelation at the end of the tunnel.?

Thanks for sharing! This kind of courage is needed also, to share other perspectives apart from the usual job specifics on LinkedIn. People want to relate to others. An opinon of a real person is very much needed, sometimes more than information after information after information.

Oh wow. More of that facebookian posts here on Linkedin from you. Thank you for sharing your feelings. Must have been really impressing to see him live in such an ?intimate“ environment and not in a stadium. Did he share more about what helped him to stay focused on the path of self love and acceptance?

This! Thanks for sharing! And with regards to "too facebookian for LinkedIn": Yeah, let's all try and be more professional and hide the fact that we are humans first and functions second. Not. #boysgetsadtoo

So true, thanks for sharing, Carl-Christoph Fellinger. Humans are complicated, we tend to over complicate things. To know how to be at ease and comfortable is a learning process for life.
